Implantation

What is implantation??

It is said to be the attachment of the fertilized egg to the wall of the uterus at the start of pregnancy.

How it occurs??

Progesterone hormone switches off the production of FSH ans LH thereby preventing the release of any more eggs. It thickens the endometrium and helps it secrete nutrients so that it will be ready to nourish an embryo.

The embryo arrives in the uterus by the 5th or 6th day of the journey.Generally it implants within a day after that. The uterus helps the process of implantation by actually pressing its front and back walls together, holding the embryo in place.

Once the fertilized egg has nestled into the endometrium,it gives off the pregnancy hormone called HCG,the signal that your pregnancy stick (pee stick) is looking for!

At this point, the menstrual cycle is effectively finished and pregnancy has begun.

When Implantation Occurs??

Implantation happens about 6-12 days after ovulation and fertilization

Implantation Bleeding ??

It is common for some women to experience implantation bleeding during implantation and some others don’t. It is sometimes mistaken as periods. Implantation bleeding or spotting lasts only for one day or two days with slight cramping but rarely noticeable. There is no treatment required for this bleeding.

Difference between Implantation bleeding and period

1) Slight brown/pink spotting whereas in periods its a heavy flow.

2) No pain/noticeable symptoms whereas in periods there will be severe back pain and cramps.

3) Implantation bleeding lasts from few hours to 3 days whereas periods lasts for 5-6 days.
